Proper Charging is Crucial!

Before first use, it's essential to fully charge your Down4Sound battery. Follow the provided instructions carefully, as proper charging is key to maximizing the lifespan of your battery. Maintaining a cool temperature during charging is equally important for battery health.

Charging Instructions:

The battery typically arrives with less than 100% State of Charge (SOC). It's crucial to charge it immediately upon receipt using a charger specifically designed for lithium batteries. Lithium batteries are sensitive to voltage and are highly vulnerable during charging. Avoid chargers designed for “Flooded” or “Maintenance-Free” batteries, as well as those with “desulfation” or “float mode.” Using such chargers can damage the battery and void the warranty.

Once the battery is fully charged, promptly remove the charger. Unlike lead-acid batteries, overcharging lithium batteries does not increase storage capacity; instead, it causes damage and should be avoided. Lithium batteries don't have a “memory effect,” so you can recharge them at any time. Avoid continuous charging or float charging.

If you use a battery charger, it MUST be a lithium battery charger, such as the Down4Sound D4S CHG-15A 12V Lithium Charger.

State of Charge:

  • 100% - 13.6V
  • 96% - 13.2V
  • 77% - 12.8V
  • 54% - 12.4V
  • 25% - 12V
  • 10% - 11.6V
  • 8% - 11.2V
  • 5% - 10.8V
  • 1% - 10.4V
  • 0% - 10V

Warranty: 1-year from purchase against manufacturer defects.

Tips:

  • Always follow the battery label ratings and avoid over-discharging.
  • Terminal voltage should stay above 10V, and the correct charger should always be used.
  • Lithium batteries are voltage-sensitive, so be mindful of the maximum voltage rating.

Installation: You can mount the battery in any direction, but ensure it is secure to prevent short circuits or movement. Be careful with connections, and avoid overtightening terminals. The battery's power output is significantly higher than lead-acid batteries, so short circuits can cause severe damage.

Usage: Lithium batteries typically outperform lead-acid counterparts. If your lithium battery isn't performing as expected, it might be too small for the task. Pulling terminal voltage below 10V will lead to premature failure, so this should be avoided at all times.

Warnings:

  • Do not overcharge or exceed the maximum voltage.
  • Keep the battery away from high temperatures and avoid operating it in environments over 130°F.
  • Always disconnect the battery before welding on a vehicle.
  • Never submerge in water, puncture, or disassemble the battery.

Follow these guidelines to ensure your Down4Sound LTO battery delivers optimal performance and longevity.
